
BROOTS invites African storytellers, writers, visual artists, and video content creators from across the continent and the diaspora to showcase their work on our website and social media platforms at no cost.
This is an open opportunity for creatives who are passionate about telling African stories, documenting African realities, and presenting the richness of African identity through their craft. At BROOTS, we are committed to giving visibility to authentic voices and original creative expressions that reflect the true African experience.
Submission Guidelines and Criteria
To be considered for publication, submitted works must meet the following requirements:
• Content must reflect authentic African experiences, stories, cultures, lifestyles, histories, or social realities.
• All submissions must be original and created by the individual submitting the work.
• Written pieces of 250 words maximum may include opinion pieces, cultural commentaries, sports, Technology and creative non fiction (all Afrocentric).
• Visual submissions may include photography, digital art, illustrations, paintings, and other visual expressions (with short descriptive notes).
• Video submissions may include documentaries, short films, spoken word performances, interviews, cultural features or social commentary (all Afrocentric)
• Submissions must be clear, well presented, and suitable for digital publication.
• Content that promotes hate, discrimination, violence, or misinformation will not be accepted.
• Works must not contain plagiarised material or content that misrepresents African realities.
• Contributors may include full name, a short bio of 50 words maximum and relevant social media handles for publication credit.
